Pre-Season Outlook
The womens basketball team is coming off a record-breaking season last year. Finishing the season as HAAC champions with an overall record of 27-9 and making a 2nd consecutive trip to the NAIA National Tournament where the women advanced to the Sweet 16.
Gone from last seasons team is Honorable Mention All-American Katie Helwig, along with 1st team All-Conference performers Morgan Williams and Erin Jenkins. Although those are obviously big losses, the cupboard is not bare. With key returners and a very strong recruiting class, the Cardinals look to continue where they left off last season. With no seniors on this years team, the Cardinals will be led by a strong junior class. 60 Honorable Mention All-Conference performer Stacy McAlexander, two year letter winners 55 Guard Jessica Heath, 61 Center Kim Lichtenauer, and 58 Forward Jamie Johnson. Two transfer students from Johnson County CC will be joining the junior class. First Team All-Region player and Team MVP 58 Guard Kerri Vena and 1st Team All-American and Team MVP 58 Guard Lynsay Gallagher. Other letter winners returning are sophomores 59 Forward Ashley Fann, 58 Guard Casey Courtney, 59 Forward Britni Cone and 510 Forward Heidi Strobel. Four other talented newcomers will figure into this years mix. Sophomore transfer Guard from Rockhurst 59 Jessica Kohrs, 59 freshman transfer from Northern Colorado Rose Simone, freshman 60 Forward Roxi Davitt and 58 freshman Forward Brandi Tuttle. The Cardinals will open up with a Classic at home on November 7th and 8th.
