Cardinal Club: 2004-2005 Board of Directors


Kristi L. Dingus – President
Kristi is a 1998 graduate of William Jewell College. She received a B.S. in Business Administration and a Paralegal Certificate. After college, Kristi established herself in the legal field working in mergers and acquisitions at Morrison & Hecker L.P. and employment law and litigation at Sprint. Kristi recently obtained her Real Estate license and is currently a salesperson with Reece & Nichols Realtors in Liberty, Missouri. Kristi is in her second year as President of the Cardinal Club and has been a voting member of the Cardinal Club since 2001. She is a member of the newly formed Liberty Community Chorus under the direction of Bryan Taylor (WJC 1984). In her spare time, Kristi enjoys playing golf, singing, watching football, and spending time with loved ones. Kristi resides in Liberty, Missouri.

Sam T. Switzer – Vice-President
Sam is a 1973 graduate of William Jewell College. He and his wife, Carolyn, have resided in rural Kearney for 27 years, where they raised their children, Drew (2001) and Jenni.
Sam has been active in non-profit volunteer activities throughout his life for William Jewell College and various organizations in the Kearney and Kansas City communities. He is now in his second term on the College’s Alumni Board of Governors where he served four years as liaison to the Cardinal Club. Currently, he is in his second year as a voting Board member of the Cardinal Club, now serving as Vice-President.
Sam is the Senior Vice-President of United Cerebral Palsy of Greater K.C. and President & Co-Owner of Switzer Homeplace Farms of Cowgill, Kidder and Kearney, Missouri, USA, and Minnitonas, Swan River Valley, Manitoba, Canada. His interests include hunting, fishing, conservation management, and sports announcing. For several years Sam has announced WJC Men’s and Women’s Soccer games and has been the “voice” for the Kearney River Bandits of the Missouri-Iowa-Nebraska-Kansas (MINK) Summer Collegiate Baseball League, in addition to semi-pro football and NAIA tournament basketball games.

Tracy (Hindle) Smith – Secretary
Tracy is a 1996 graduate of William Jewell College. She received a B.S. in Business Administration. She joined PRIMEDIA Business Magazines & Media, a targeted business-to-business media company, in 1996 as an advertising production coordinator for various publications. In 1999 she began selling advertising space and tradeshow exhibit space for several PRIMEDIA properties, which she continues to do today. In her spare time, Tracy enjoys traveling and playing volleyball. Tracy has been involved in supporting Jewell athletics as a member of the Cardinal Club board for three years. She and her husband, Todd, reside in Kansas City, Missouri.

Monte Harmon - Alumni Board of Governors Liaison
Monte is a 1988 graduate of William Jewell College. Monte received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He played Varsity Basketball at WJC from 1984 through 1988. He taught Biology and coached Basketball from 1989 through 1993 at Oakville Senior High School in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1992, Monte received his Master of Sports Science in Sports Management from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama. Monte currently is a Biology teacher and Basketball Coach at Oak Park High School in Kansas City, Missouri, and has been since 1993. He is a member of the WJC Alumni Board of Governors and the WJC Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee. Monte, his wife Tammy, and sons Nathan and Mitchell reside in Kansas City, Missouri.

Jack M. DeWees
Reverend Jack M. DeWees is a 1972 graduate of William Jewell College. Currently, Jack is the Associate Pastor at the United Methodist Church in Liberty, Missouri. He is in his second year as a Cardinal Club Board member and is the WJC and Liberty High School football P.A. announcer. Jack is also the Commissioner of the Liberty Road District and a member of the Ministerial Alliance. Jack and his wife, Jane (Williams) (WJC-1970), have two adult sons, Jack M. DeWees III (WJC-1996) and James M. DeWees (attended WJC 1994-1996). Jane is a teacher with the Liberty Public Schools. Jack and Jane reside in Liberty, Missouri.

Fred Merrell
Fred is a 1955 graduate of William Jewell College. He received a B.A. in Education. After graduating from WJC, Fred attended Truman State where he received his Master’s degree in 1962. In 1976, Fred received an Education Specialist degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Fred retired in 2002 after teaching and coaching for 44 years. He served three years as an Assistant Coach and 41 years as Head Coach at the following area schools: Liberty, Monroe City, West Plains, Blue Springs, Shawnee Mission South, and St. Mary’s. Fred was selected to the Missouri High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1993. He currently works in part-time sales with Photographic Enterprises Corporation, and is a volunteer staff member with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Fred and his wife, Shirley, reside in Blue Springs, Missouri.

Lee L. Roark
Lee is a 1972 graduate of William Jewell College. Lee received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. In 1982, he received his Master's degree from Pittsburg State University. Lee coached basketball and taught for over 10 years. He is currently working as the Chief Operations Officer for an electronics company. Lee, his wife Mary, and their three children, Krystle, Natalie, and Jordan reside in Liberty, Missouri.

Rich Stonum
Rich is a 1970 graduate of William Jewell College and has since spent most of his life in the Liberty area as a teacher, sports official, and real estate agent. Since 1997 Rich has been selling real estate with the Reece and Nichols Real Estate Company. Rich was a member of the 1968 National Championship Baseball team and was inducted into the William Jewell College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. He has been on the Cardinal Club Board for three years, serving as President in 2001-2002. Having been around “The Hill” since 1966, Rich says, “It is thrilling to be involved in a small way in the “Renaissance” of the Athletic Department under the direction of Dr. Jim Redd and Dr. David Sallee.”
