Ted Graves Head Track & Field
E-mail: gravest@william.jewell.edu
Ted Graves has recently been named as head men’s and women’s track coach at William Jewell College. Graves (WJC class of 1984) was a four-year letterman in football and track, winning the conference discus championship three times. His teams were also conference champions twice.
Graves began coaching at Cabool, MO and has been a teacher in Kearney, MO for 20 years. He served as the head track coach at Kearney High School for 11 of those years, winning seven district titles and two conference championships. Under his guidance, the boys team finished in the top-10 five times, with over 60 All-State athletes in all.
Coach Graves’ abilities transcend not only from the track and field and in the classroom, but he also helped raise over $100,000 to construct a new complex at Kearney.
Ever since graduating from William Jewell College, Graves has been entrenched in the school. He has served as the assistant throws coach here since 1998, leading eight National qualifiers in that span. He has also been an assistant football coach under Coach Dave Bassore since 2002.
Graves is married to Julie and they have two daughters, Rachel and Meredith. The Graves reside in Liberty.
“We are very fortunate to have Coach Graves take the helm as head track coach at William Jewell,” Athletic Director Dr. Jim Redd said. “He will no doubt uphold the great tradition and success that we have seen in the past, while looking forward to the bright future in track ahead.”
