(from left) President David Sallee,Mary Sallee, Jill Talley and Jack Talley ’80 visit during an alumni reception at the Talley’s home in Oklahoma City.

(from left) Mary and David Sallee share a moment with Aloah Burke Kincaid ’58 during a recent visit to Tulsa.

Taking their cue from the 1969 movie “If It’s Tuesday,This Must Be Belgium,” in which American tourists visited nine countries in a whirlwind eighteen days, President and Mrs. David Sallee took part in the William Jewell version by meeting with alumni and friends in six cities over the course of six days in September. Accompanied by Patricia Petty, Director of Alumni Relations, the Jewell contingent set out on September 25 for Springfield, Mo., where, along with hosts Mike and Robbi Haynes, a large group of more than 50 alumni, current parents, trustees and friends of the college enjoyed dinner at The Cookie, a restaurant owned by Steve Harris, WJC ’87. After dinner, a video detailing the tornado damage to the Liberty campus was shown. Dr. Sallee offered remarks concerning the reconstruction and restoration of the buildings and grounds and answered questions from attendees, a format which was followed in the other cities.

In Joplin, Mo., on September 26, Chip ‘92 and Sara (Fales ’93) Wright hosted an intimate group of area alums at Club 1201. The home of Jim and Aloah (Burke ’58) Kincaid was the site of the gathering on September 27 in Tulsa, Okla., where a diverse group enjoyed a delicious meal and stimulating conversation. Royal Lane Baptist Church in Dallas,Texas, was the place selected for an afternoon reception on September 28 at which John and Gail (Danforth ’75) Hill hosted attendees from Dallas, Fort Worth and surrounding cities.

Plans are being made for future visits to speak with high school-aged children of Jewell alumni to introduce potential students to the college.

Traveling to Oklahoma City, Okla., for a September 29 meeting at the home of Jack (’80) and Jill Talley, a congenial group braved inclement weather to enjoy Mexican fare and a fun evening getting acquainted and hearing the latest Jewell news. The Flint Hills National Golf Club was the location on September 30 for Wichita, Kan., area alumni and friends to gather in the club house on the scenic grounds for dinner hosted by Dave (’75) and Beth (Humphreys ’75) Nesbitt.

Enthusiasm for and interest in the latest developments at William Jewell College was evident in all the discussions and questions posed at the gatherings. Additional alumni area trips are being planned.Would you like to have your city considered for a visit? Let us know at pettyp@william.jewell.com.
