Jewell alumni recognized

Mrs. Christine Griffey Pugh, WJC class of 1933, received the John F. Truex Award for Lifetime Alumni Service, presented by Richard Groves, class of ’64, President of the National Alumni Board of Governors and Kit Truex Mair, ’77, President-Elect of the same organization. Mrs. Pugh was honored for her support of WJC alumni activities and events since graduation.

Awarded the Distinguished Alumni Service Award was Mrs. Bonnie Stricker Crossett ’72. Mrs. Crossett has been a committed force behind many projects of the WJC Woman’s Committee, serving as past president of that organization as well as on many of its committees and Alumni board commissions. Currently, Mrs. Crossett serves her church as mission and fellowship leader.

Mr. Dick Brown, ’64, received the Distinguished Alumni Service Award from the William Jewell College Alumni Board for his long-term service to the college including acting as announcer for WJC sporting events and serving as a resource to the Career Mentor Program. Mr. Brown is also Emeritus Professor of Communication at the college as well as an alumni advisor for Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Mr. Brown serves as UMKC Theatre Alumni Association President and is past president of the Martha LaFite Thompson Nature Sanctuary.

Recognized for the Distinguished Young Alumni Service Award was Mr. Marty Teat of the class of 1991. Mr. Teat’s work with WJC business students as a mentor and his development of the Cerner/Kauffman Capstone classes along with his assistance in teaching Introduction to Computer Programming at WJC has kept him in touch with today’s college students. Mr. Teat is Chief Architect and Director of intellectual Property for Cerner Corporation and also officiates with the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Youth Sports program and works with the First Hand Foundation.

Mr. Eric Zahnd, ’91, was presented with a replica of the William Jewell College Achieve magazine article in which he was named one of Ingram’s magazine’s “40 under 40” business leaders for 2004. Ingram’s recognized Mr. Zahnd as one of the most influential business, government and community leaders in Kansas City. Mr. Zahnd is Platte County, Missouri, Prosecuting Attorney, currently the youngest elected prosecuting attorney of a first-class county in Missouri.
