The biennal William Jewell College Faculty Art Exhibition
opens November 16 and runs through December 12 in the
Stocksdale Gallery of Art.
“In order to model the creative life of the
artist-teacher at Jewell, our standing rule is that
the art exhibited in this show can not be more than
two years old,” says art department chairwoman
Nano Nore.
Assistant Professor Rob Quinn (photography & sculpture/jewelry
making),director of the Stocksdale Gallery,will be exhibiting
metal work. Rex Walkenhorst (ceramics) will exhibit
thrown and altered ceramic vessels.Jeremy Walla (design,
computer graphics and illustration) has exciting illustration
works, and Carlyle Raine, (figure drawing and painting)
will continue her painterly series based loosely on
the motif of Etruscan Art. Nathan Wyman (technical design
& theatre) has interactive three-dimensional mixed
media, and Professor Nore (chair, painting and printmaking,
art history) will exhibit her expressionistic landscape
paintings. Professor emeritis David Johnson will display
his new woodcut based on the “Tending of the Garden”
by the master Sower.

Carlyle Raine has been teaching at Jewell for 20 years.
She teaches weekend classes in drawing and painting
and has also taught figure drawing classes. Her work
has been shown in Europe and in New York City galleries.
Professor Nore joined the Jewell faculty in 1988. She
received her B.F.A. from the Kansas City Art Institute,
her M.A. and M.F.A. from Texas Woman’s University,
and her M.A.R.S. from Central Baptist Theological Seminary.
Her painting pictured in this issue is of Nordfjord
(Norway)at sunset. It is done in watercolor and is 4”
x 6”. The piece was painted from memory after
Professor Nore visited her cousins at the Nore homestead
in Bryggia.
Her work appears in collections in Europe, Great Britain,
Australia, Hong Kong and the United States Raine and
Nore have had joint two-woman shows at the Michael Cross
Gallery in Kansas City and in the Stocksdale Gallery
