Dr. David L. Sallee is the fourteenth president of William Jewell College, a national liberal arts institution located in Liberty, Missouri, that has been named TIME magazine’s Liberal Arts College of the Year for 2001-02.
A native of Sedan, Kansas, he was awarded a doctorate of philosophy in adult and higher education from the University of Oklahoma in 1993. At Pittsburg State University he received a master of science in physical education in 1976. In 1973 he earned a bachelor of arts in physical education from Oklahoma Baptist University, after spending two years at Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri.
Dr. Sallee’s past responsibilities reflect a variety of strengths as an educator and administrator. Most recently, he served for seven years as vice president for enrollment management at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he was responsible for all aspects of student recruitment and student financial planning. He helped lead Luther to record enrollments while enhancing the academic profile of the college.
During his tenure at Oklahoma Baptist University from 1976 to 1993, Dr. Sallee held a number of positions, including enrollment manager, director of planned giving, instructor in physical education, director of athletics, head of the department of health and physical education and men’s and women’s basketball coach. He began his career in education as a public school teacher in Diamond and Webb City, Missouri.
Dr. Sallee and his wife, Mary, have two sons: Andrew, an alumnus of William Jewell and currently an admission counselor for the college; and Patrick, a student and basketball player at Oklahoma Baptist University.
