Distinctive Programs: Midwest Center for Service Learning and Women's Issues
Committed to responsible citizenry in a global society, William Jewell believes that the best leaders also serve. Service learning is interwoven throughout your academic and co-curricular experiences to enhance your understanding of self, other people and society.
In the set of courses on service learning, you can choose courses on such topics as the social, economic and political forces that affect poverty, the roles of modern non-profit organizations in community development, models of individual service and volunteerism. In addition, the Center can arrange service-learning internships for you locally, nationally or internationally.
You can complete service learning courses either as electives to your academic major, or earn a special certificate in service learning by completing a set of designated courses and an internship.
For more information on service learning, contact Chris Henson.
Student quote: We are encouraged to do service projects at Jewell, and that has something to do with leadership, too. By serving, you’re practicing the ultimate leadership. Because God has blessed me with certain leadership abilities, I want to lead so that other people can have better lives, too, not just to get more for myself.
Kelli Hart ‘01, 2001 President of Alpha Omega
