Panhellenic Council
The William Jewell College Panhellenic Council is the governing body for the national and international sororities on campus. It is the responsibility of the Panhellenic Council to oversee Recruitment, encourage academic excellence among its members, foster relations between sororities, and develop leadership opportunities for Greek-affiliates.
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia is a national professional fraternity for men in the field of music. The purposes of the fraternity are to encourage and promote the highest standards of creativity, performance, education, and research in music in America; to develop and encourage loyalty to the Alma Mater; to foster mutual welfare and brotherhood of students of music; to instill in all people an awareness of music’s important role in the enrichment of the human spirit.
Membership in Phi Mu Alpha does not prevent membership in a social fraternity or a society in another discipline. Students selected for membership must be actively involved in music.
Radio Station
William Jewell College operates a 250-watt FM stereo radio station, KWJC, at 91.9 MHz. KWJC plays commercial-free modern rock and broadcasts a variety of programs and events, as well. The studios are located in the basement of Brown Hall. Students interested in working at KWJC are invited to fill out an application, available at the station. No course is required to work at the station; however, students are encouraged to enroll in the broadcasting course. Some students take advantage of the work-study program to earn money while working at KWJC and others receive college credit by enrolling in the “radio activities” course.
Resident Assistants
The Resident Assistant is a full-time student employed as an integral member of the Residence Life staff. The RAs live on a wing or in a house with a group of 10-40 residents and work with them in areas of advising, programming (social, educational, cultural, and athletic), discipline administration, and general operation of the residence halls. The RA position has many other benefits on which tangible value cannot be placed. An RA has opportunities to develop skills in management, organization, time budgeting, and effective techniques of counseling with others in conflict resolution or personal problems. All of these are valuable tools to develop regardless of one’s later role in life. Interviews for RA positions are held in February.
Rock Climbing Club
The purpose of this club is to introduce students to rock climbing in a safe environment while promoting physical health and sound principles and technique in this area.
ShinkiKan Club (Jujitsu)
The mission statement of this organization is to share and spread understanding, appreciation, and interest in the study of martial art culture.
Sigma Alpha Iota
Sigma Alpha Iota is the international professional society for women in the field of music. Its purposes are to raise the standards of productive musical work, to further the development of music and to give inspiration and support to its members. Members are chosen from women participants in the campus music program.
Society of Physics Students
The Society of Physics Students, sponsored by the American Institute of Physics, is the student professional society in physics. There are over 300 chapters in colleges and universities in the United States. Membership is available to all students who are interested in physics as a career. Members receive subscriptions to Physics Today or the Physics Teacher, each of which is published by the American Institute of Physics.
Spanish Club
The mission of this organization will be to promote Spanish language and culture in the William Jewell community.
Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society
Any student in good standing and enrolled in course work leading toward a degree in chemistry or biochemistry may be a Student Affiliate of the American Chemical Society. Other students who are taking chemistry courses may be associates in accordance with regulations of the American Chemical Society. This organization gives opportunities for students of chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering to develop to their fullest potential in the field of chemistry.
Students in Free Enterprise
SIFE is a not-for-profit organization supported by individuals, foundations, and corporations. SIFE is college and university teams learning, teaching, and practicing free enterprise in order to better individuals, communities, and countries.
The overall competitions and special competitions conducted by SIFE headquarters give the student teams a forum to present their outreach programs to a panel of top-level corporate executives and entrepreneurs who evaluate the effectiveness of their efforts.
Student Senate
The functioning organization of student government at William Jewell College is the Student Senate. It not only provides a forum for the formulation of student opinion on many diverse issues, but also provides a working link between the students and the faculty, administration, and the Board of Trustees. The Senate meets each Tuesday night in the Union. All students are welcome to attend and participate in the discussion. Only duly elected representatives are allowed to vote.
Anyone may participate in the government merely by attending and entering the discussion. There is also the option of volunteering to serve on various Senate committees. Information concerning these committees may be obtained from the student body president. A third alternative for participation is to be an office holder. There are four representatives elected from each class. Elections for upper-class students are held in the spring and for first-year students in the fall. All students are urged to participate in student government in some manner.
Symphonic Band
The 65-piece Symphonic Band is the largest of the instrumental organizations sponsored by the music department. The band is open to all students by audition. The band plays for a number of convocations, performs numerous concerts, and takes a major tour during the school year. The band meets three times a week for one hour of credit.
Tri Psi Psychology Club
The William Jewell College Psychology Club was organized to enhance the study of psychology at William Jewell by facilitating social and educational opportunities apart from those found in the classroom. Membership is open to all with an interest in psychology.
TPEXEIN
TPEXEIN (Truh-KANE) is a student organization for Greek students at WJC. They meet weekly for Bible study, fellowship, and encouragement - every Tuesday night at 10pm. Each week, TPEXEIN is hosted by a different Greek organization (either in Semple Hall, or in one of the fraternity houses.
Unity Association
Unity has as its main purpose the facilitation of communication among persons of various ethnic backgrounds. The organization, open to all interested students, faculty, and staff participates in community projects as well as campus activities.
William Jewell College Theatre
The William Jewell College theatre productions are open to any William Jewell student. Anyone with an interest in dramatics and the desire to act in plays, to produce plays, or to do technical work may be involved.
Young Democrats
This organization is the campus auxiliary of the Democratic Party. Open to all students, its activities include cooperating with county, state, and national campaign efforts, sponsoring campus speakers, and providing services to new and absentee voters.
