Campus Life: Religious Life, Events, and Groups
William Jewell College’s religious heritage is of the Missouri Baptist tradition. The College does not require its students to embrace this heritage or any particular faith expression. It also does not require its faculty to embrace the particularly Baptist expression of the Christian tradition, but the faculty are committed at least to the basic values of the Christian faith and to exemplifying those values in their work. Because the College is committed to spiritual values and Christian maturity, it offers students many opportunities to explore and express the Christian faith in ways unique to their own needs and individual interests.

Christian Student Ministries
CSM oversees all Christian groups and activities on campus. These programs are supervised by the campus minister and follow a wide variety of expressions. (website)

Chapel
Chapel is the campus worship experience conducted each Thursday at 9:45 a.m. in Gano Chapel. The Chaplain of the College typically leads this worship gathering, with occasional outside guests who share their commitment to the Christian faith.

Sigma Epsilon Pi
Students interested in ministry or church-related vocations are invited to participate in Sigma Epsilon Pi, the formal organization of students considering such careers.

Church Ministries Practicum
The Chaplain of the College oversees this program, which offers courses and scholarships that help students prepare for church-related vocations. Students on scholarship are required to participate in Sigma Epsilon Pi.

Lecture Series
The Lecture Series brings to campus outside guests who present their Christian faith and commitment to our students through the formal lecture program. Typically, one lecture is held each month. See the “Academic” section for more information.

Religion Courses
Formal academic study of the Bible, church history, Christian theology, and other faiths is offered for credit through the WD Johnson Department of Religion. The Chair of the Department, Dr. Brad Chance, is responsible for these academic offerings. See the “Academic” section for more information.
