Alpha Omega
Alpha Omega is a Christian women’s organization, with meetings held weekly. Alpha Omega is open to all women wanting to participate in Christian fellowship and discipleship throughout the year. Alpha Omega is an organized community of women who want to serve Jesus Christ through an established organization.
Alpha Phi Omega
Alpha Mu is William Jewell’s chapter of the only national service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega. Those students interested in the principles of leadership, friendship, and service are invited to become members. Each year the group participates in various service projects, both on-and off-campus.
American Marketing Association
The mission statement of AMA is to inform, support and inspire William Jewell College students to be marketing oriented and to seek opportunity through enhanced professional skills and leadership training. (website)
Amnesty International
Amnesty International is an independent worldwide organization working impartially for the release of all prisoners of conscience, fair and prompt trials for political prisoners, and an end to torture and execution. The local chapter of Amnesty International meets weekly to discuss human rights issues and organize activities to heighten campus consciousness. The chapter also holds fundraisers, has speakers, and shows films throughout the year.
Association for Computing Machinery/Association of Information Technology Professionals
ACM/AITP is the combination of the two premier professional organizations for computing professionals. ACM/AITP provides a variety of social and pre-professional opportunities. Activities may include monthly meetings, attending presentations by the greater Kansas City area local chapter, discussions led by William Jewell College graduates and professionals in the computer science field, local competitions, and other activities.
Athletics
William Jewell College is a member of the Heart of America Athletic Conference and competes in the following conference sports: Men’s varsity sports: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis and indoor and outdoor track. Women’s varsity sports: basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, indoor and outdoor track and volleyball. The William Jewell College Athletic Department follows all NAIA standards for eligibility. (link)
The William Jewell College Spirit Team is composed of the dance team, the pom squad, co-ed cheerleading squad, and the mascots. Tryouts are held in late spring and early fall. The Spirit Team attends all home football and basketball games. They also support other sporting events during the year. They attend summer camp together and they compete on the national level in the winter.
Cardinal Blazers
Cardinal Blazers are student volunteers associated with the Office of Admission who communicate the merits of William Jewell College with prospective students and their families. The purpose of the organization is to support the recruitment efforts through daily tours, special visit events, and other duties as needed. Cardinal Blazers are sometimes the only current students that visitors come in contact with, so they must represent the student body of William Jewell with honesty, integrity, and enthusiasm. Students may enter the program as early as the second semester of their first year on campus.
Cardinal Hosts
Students selected through a comprehensive selection process serve as hosts to guests of the Office of the President at specific campus social and honors convocations. Responsibilities of Cardinal Hosts include assisting at events by registering, greeting, hosting, and escorting special guests of the College. Cardinal Hosts encourage interaction of outstanding students of William Jewell College with its constituency by providing social and service opportunities. Representing the highest caliber of Jewell students, the members of Cardinal Hosts will assist the Office of the President by serving as hosts to its distinguished guests and visitors.
The Cardinal Brass
The Brass Ensemble provides performance opportunities for students who have high performance proficiency on the symphonic instruments. Literature performed by the group consists of classical and contemporary legitimate brass music and music special to the church. Performance opportunities include recitals, ceremonies, festivals, conventions, and religious services.
Chamber Singers
The Chamber Singers are an all first year ensemble selected during fall registration by audition. Only members of Chapel Choir are eligible for membership. Membership continues for two semesters. This honors ensemble sings for Hanging of the Green in December, presents a full concert in the spring semester, and other performances on occasion. Literature is selected from a wide variety of styles. Music reading ability is one of the skills considered.
Chamber Orchestra
Exploring works from the rich string literature of Vivaldi to Vaughan Williams, the Chamber Orchestra rehearses twice a week. The group performs several concerts each semester, both on- and off-campus. Outstanding students frequently are featured as soloists. Chosen by audition, the group is open to all qualified string players regardless of major.
Chapel Choir
Each year approximately 115 students make up the William Jewell College Chapel Choir. Members are chosen by audition. The choir sings for campus convocation periods and for churches in the Kansas City area. A smaller group from within the choir is chosen to make an annual tour of Midwest cities. Each semester the entire choir presents a major choral work with orchestral accompaniment.
Christian Student Ministries
Through a variety of activities and programs, CSM encourages students on their spiritual journey while providing activities and resources for personal growth. Students may also use their gifts to join CSM in its service to the college and community by participating in one of many ministry teams. Church Music Conference
Church Music Conference is open to all students interested in church music. Members receive complimentary music and participate in anthem reading sessions. The group also helps sponsor events such as the Fall Choir Kickoff, children’s choir workshops, and music missions activities. Consult Dr. Don Brown, advisor.
College Republicans
This organization is the campus auxiliary of the Republican Party. Open to all students, its activities include cooperating with county, state, and national campaign efforts, sponsoring campus speakers, and providing services to new and absentee voters.
College Union Activities (CUA)
CUA provides recreational, social and educational programs for all students throughout the academic year. Under the auspices of the CUA Board, CUA has students serving as council members. The CUA Board is comprised of the director and five chairs, including the intramural chair. CUA members are responsible for arranging concerts, planning VIP speakers, intramurals, first-year student orientation entertainment, comedians, ice skating parties, and many more activities.
