Our curriculum provides 124 college hours in liberal arts, prerequisite, and nursing courses. Students may enter the nursing program upon completion of high school, as a transfer from another college or university, or as a college graduate seeking to complete nursing requirements for the bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) in one academic year.
Students completing the requirements for the BSN in the traditional 4-year program enroll in a total of 73 credits in general education, prerequisite courses, and electives, and 51 nursing credits.
Students may transfer general education and prerequisite courses and complete the 51 nursing hours in 5 semesters or in one summer session and 4 semesters. Students entering with a degree may complete the required nursing hours in one calendar year.
Students in nursing must meet college requirements for admission to William Jewell College in order to begin classes. Students apply for admission to the Department of Nursing following completion of two semesters of general education and prerequisite courses. Applicants are considered for admission based on admission guidelines, grade point average, and essay response.
General education, prerequisite, and nursing courses provide our students with skills, knowledge, leadership skills, and values to enter, develop, and advance in the profession of nursing. Graduates completing our program with a bachelor of science in nursing are eligible to apply to complete the NCLEX-RN examination required by State Boards of Nursing for professional registered nurse licensure.
