Mathematics
As a mathematics major at Jewell, you are challenged to explore connections between the various areas of mathematics and other liberal arts courses. Mathematics majors pursue balanced study in pure and applied mathematics with the opportunity to study algebraic systems and analysis; linear and abstract algebra; calculus; statistics; probability geometry; and numerical analysis.
The department offers two majors: mathematics and mathematics with an emphasis in data processing. The data processing emphasis add coursework in business, accounting and computer studies to the mathematics major. Either major prepares you for many careers in business and not-for-profit organizations or graduate studies.
Mathematics majors are encouraged by the department to pursue dual majors to broaden their training for the future. A double major in education and mathematics, for example, prepares you for secondary education.
