Along with the general support collections, we also have a number of specialized resources. How can I locate a book or videotape ? You can find any library item, from audio-visuals to books to government documents, by searching for author, title, subject, or keyword on one of our on-line catalogs. If you need help, please ask a librarian for assistance. |
Circulation
How do I check out library materials?
Your current William Jewell ID is required to check out library materials. Present your ID, along with the materials you wish to check out, at the circulation counter. Evening students may obtain library cards at the circulation desk with proper verification.
Remember, you are responsible for all material checked out with your ID.
When do I need to return library materials I have checked out? Library materials are loaned for 21 days. Renewals are for an additional 21 days, provided there are no holds on the titles. One renewal can be made on-line. Ask at the circulation desk for instructions. All loans are subject to recall after the first loan period if needed by another user or for class reserve. Will I be charged for library materials that are overdue or lost? Yes, you will be charged $4.00 per title on overdue library materials if they are not returned before we send our second notice. A $10.00 processing fee plus current replacement cost is charged for lost materials. |
Reserve
Is there a list of materials on reserve? A listing of all materials on reserve, arranged by department and course, is kept in notebooks on the circulation counter. You may also look up reserve materials in the on-line catalog under Course Reserves. How do I ask for reserve materials? Locate the item you want in the reserve notebooks, then present your WJC ID to the desk attendant. How long may I keep reserve materials? Loan periods depend on instructions from the professor. Current loan periods are: 1) library use only 4 hours; 2) overnight; 3) three day; and 4) seven day. What are the overdue charges for late return of reserve? Reserve materials returned late are fined at the rate of $5.00 per item.
Reference Services
Where can I get information or assistance? A Reference Librarian is available to answer questions concerning location and use of the library's resources.
Where do I find magazine articles on a specific subject topic? The best approach is to use an index. The library subscribes to many specialized indexes. Current indexes may be found near the Reference Librarian's office on the first floor. Newspaper indexes are across from the Circulation Desk. Many indexes are in printed form. |
Does the library have government documents? The library is a partial depository for Federal Documents. Selected documents are shelved by separate numbering systems on the first floor. Records for some of the documents are included in the on-line catalog. If you wish to make a thorough search of government documents, ask for assistance from the Reference Librarian.
Do you have computerized indexes for magazines and newspapers? Yes, the library has several computerized indexes. You can search and print citations and full text from these indexes covering magazines, government documents, and newspapers. Our Reference Librarian or circulation staff can give you more information. |
Special Services
What if Curry Library does not have a book or article I need? Curry Library is a member of MOBIUS. The library can borrow books not in MOBIUS and photocopies of magazine articles for you. You may directly request materials found in the MOBIUS catalog. Ask a librarian for instructions. Most requests are filled by our regional library network. Please allow 7-10 days for delivery of interlibrary loan materials. Students may borrow directly from area libraries using a courtesy card. For a list of participating libraries and card issuance, contact the Reference Librarian or Circulation Librarian. Do you have a popular reading section? Selected new books are located on display shelving in the Greene Reading Room. Where can I make copies of library materials? Photocopiers and microform copy machines are located on the first floor. Copies are 10¢ each. Change is available at the circulation desk, or a $5.00 Copicard (100 copies) may be bought for photocopying use. Where can I listen to a CD or view a videotape? The majority of our audiovisual collection is kept at the main circulation desk. Listening and viewing stations are available for reviewing slides, filmstrips, and videotapes or listening to cassettes, CDs or sound recordings. |
